I always get so excited when I make an image with a very subtle tonal gradation between dark gray and deep black. Back in the day I had a photography professor who used to constantly jab at me. "...all of your photographs are too contrasty!" she would say as she slapped a B+ on my projects, just so it was clear that breaking the rules was not totally embraced by the establishment.
So composition, pose, and all the rest be damned. I managed to separate deep black and dark gray. Take that world!
